I think i may have an eating disorder.

Postby TheFallenOne » Sun Aug 20, 2017 3:20 pm

At first my mothers mum died and she was close to me. That is when i stopped eating. I couldnt eat as i felt real guilty and i couldnt bring myself to do it. I was about 16 at the time and i weighed a measly 5.5 stone. Which wasnt good and i got real ill from it.

I have had moments from then which arise occasionally where i gag if food is consumed, or, food gets too much for me of which was a bite or two. Usually i don't get like that too often but now it's become like before but stronger; till the point where i don't eat, sleep or even drink anything.

I rarely feel hunger, or a need/want for food. Nor do i feel any pains that come with not eating. I've had days when i wouldn't eat for a week and then eat again.

I don't know what to do, what to even think about this. As it is affecting my life, although, i don't find it to be an eating disorder. But i have come here to ask because people here have experience.

I hope to hear from you all soon.

No doubt it is an eating disorder. It's not okay that you can do without meal for so long. You should consult with a doctor, a psychiatrist perhaps, before things getting worse. Probably you have a depression. And don't blame yourself for your grandmother's' death. It's not your fault.

It is perfectly quite alright to go without a meal, or to go without many meals. Have you looked into the practice of fasting?

In a world full of eaters, a non-eater sticks out. People in our cultures are conditioned from birth to eat their "required" meals everyday for "nutrition" and "strength." However, when one looks at the other side, the side of not-eating, one finds that all of this consumption of substances is not necessary, and even detrimental to health.

And to force someone to eat who is naturally not feeling the need to eat is doing that person harm.

Loss of appetite could be a symptom of depression. You mention that you stopped eating normally after your grandma died. I think a psychotherapist might help you both with getting over the loss and with your eating behaviour.

Yes, it is definitely an eating disorder. It occurs due to the abnormal eating habits.

I just read this and yes. Depression causes loss of appetite. You lose interest in food or even those food items that used to be your favorites. Now you'd care less.
Eating loses its priority.
You'll even lose sleep over this. So first visit a doctor and talk about your condition.

1. You should consult a medical doctor if you may need B-vitamins,

2. You should consult a psychiatrist if you may need an escitalopram, to overcome depression if so

3. Try to enjoy your life, be more excited about living, it causes appetite
