Work is a means to an end. If you don't enjoy it -- and I know you don't -- you can at least remind yourself it shelters and feeds you. People who love their jobs are lucky. That usually means they get on well with the other workers, often so much so that they carry on to the pub or coffee shop together at the end of the day.

If you get no satisfaction from your job -- and I know you don't -- it takes effort to put something else in place. People join out-of-hours interest groups or take up a sport.

I don't think you're going to generate more enthusiasm for your work by making it the centrepiece of your existence.

Life's very tough on those who choose to go it alone.

At the side of the page there are articles about panic and anxiety. I picked this one for you: http://www.panic-attacks.co.uk/articles ... man-needs/

I liked the list of basic needs. Makes a lot of sense to me.

1. The need to give and receive attention

2. Taking care of the mind-body connection

3. The need for meaning, purpose and goals

4. The need for a connection to something greater than ourselves

5. The need for creativity and stimulation

6. The need for intimacy and connection

7. The need for a sense of control

8. The need for a sense of status.

9. The need for a sense safety and security.

That sets you up for a very dull life, desperate. Life is about taking risks, feeling excited, and the joy that comes when your gamble has paid off. If all you want is safety, that's all you'll get. Does that make sense?

I mean interpersonal risks, chiefly. If you like a girl and ask her if she wants to go for coffee with you, you're taking the risk that she says no. I'm not talking about breaking the law or jumping out of a helicopter.

So figure out who you might get on with from among your co-workers, and take a risk. I dare you!

Honestly, desperate, it sounds as though you get through your working day without meeting anybody. Is that how it is?

The job would be a lot less threatening if you could talk to someone and have a laugh about it. There surely has to be someone doing the same kind of work as you are?
