When someone feels connected to you, it means three things.

One: They like You
Two: They are open to what you have to say
Three: They want to agree with you. If you want to have higher influential skills, persuasive communication, this is what you need to establish. And you want to do it fast.

Highly successful entrepreneur such as Brian Tracy said, “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.”

In order to get people to like you, look at the list below. The 6 following ways will helps you to win friends, close more sales, build quality relationship with your partners or influence others.

1. Listen To Others Attentively
“We have two ears and one mouth and we should use them proportionally,” says Susan Cain author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

Excellent listening is an essential skill in effective communicating. By listening others attentively, you are showing others that you care about them, their stories, challenges and what they have to say.

Besides, listening to others also gives you time to understand them better. You have more time to digest, and able provide appropriate responses. So, listen more and speak less.

2. Genuine Smile
A genuine smile has constantly been ranked on the top of my list as the single determining factor of a positive first impression. The wise men were right – a smile is indeed the shortest distance between two strangers!

Some of us are born with very stoic or “serious” faces. But if you consciously remember to smile every time you communicate with others, it will eventually become a habit.

3. Establish Eye Contact with Others
Many people sometimes take this technique the wrong way and start to stare. A good eye contact is about giving your 110% attention as you are communicating with another person.

Engaging the person in a warm, steady and non-threatening gaze is definitely an effective way to show attention.
Mentally, you are sending out a signal to the other person that you want to connect.

4. Charisma – High Energy with Enthusiasm
This is a no brainer. If you observe the successful people, you will notice they have a seemingly infinite source of positive energy. And this infectious energy they exude draws people to them.

Have you seen someone was so excited about their messages and when they share, people around them gets excited. They lean forward, reacting positively to everything he had to say. That is the power of enthusiasm.

5. Positive Body Language & Gesture
Having a good posture and gesture is one of the determining factor to others that whether you are confident, smart, lazy or irritating individual.

Our brain has been wired in such a way that certain body language and gesture means different thing. If you drop your shoulders, look down and hunch your back, what kind of impression will you get when meeting new people? Versus a person who walk straight, open arm gesture, chest up, look up?

The answer is obvious. Therefore, that note on your body posture. If you want to be a good communicator, use open gesture such as establishing your eye contact, firm hand shake, open up your arm instead of crossing them, lean forward instead of backward, chest up and sit straight.

6. They Ask Questions – Open Ended & Close Ended Questions
Again, in an effort to best understand the audience, a good communicator uses questions – ones that are filled with specifics – quality questions. They fill any gaps of confusions with answers, not assumptions. Any knowledge gained through questioning helps to better fulfil the audience as well as to better get the communicator’s message across.

Final Thought - Practising these skills and improving your ability to communicate is worth your time and effort. In a winning businesses, promotion, effective negotiation, quality relationship, great leadership… is all about establishing a good impression in the first place.

What else can you do to create a positive first impression with others? Please feel free to share your ideas and experience about positive first impression. ;)

Cheers!
