I'm no practitioner, doctor, or nurse, but COVID-19 can't be contracted via the digestive system (eating). It's a respiratory disease (breathing) after all. You can't breathe while you eat, so that helps with protection from eating infected foods if that be the case.
To infect the food, you'd have to touch the infected packaging/contaminated surfaces at the store, open the packaging, and touch the food. Cooking the food in an oven or stovetop can kill off the Corona Virus and other harmful viruses/bacteria. The microwave not so much. Make sure to wash your hands after unpacking and preparing the food next times.
If you think you're infected, do not go to your mother at all costs. Call the doc, tell him about your symptoms, he'll tell you how long to stay home if he believes you're infected. Afterward, you're good to go. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before going to your mother and at your mother's if you do decide to visit her, and prevent coughing and sneezing openly at all costs. The part that's bad is if she breathes it in or touches her face a lot after touching objects without washing.
Basing that you're a hypochondriac like I am (a person who is quick to assume ailments have befallen them), the cough could be a mental thing. If you worry about the symptoms a lot, your mind will start creating them for you and you start acting them out. It's going to be okay, relax. Even bad air can cause mild flu symptoms. I went into a building with heavy smokers once and woke up the next morning coughing up nasty gunk myself.
Remember, better safe than sorry. If not for yourself, then make sure to take care of yourself for others you love and care about.
