Can't stop thinking about blinking, OCD.

Postby bmoody31 » Sun Feb 01, 2015 3:38 am

Hi there, I'm 14 and ever since around late Novemberish I've been constantly think about blinking and when to blink. I've also been thinking about thinking in general, and have been obsessing over overthinking.. well.. thinking. Sometimes when I watch a movie I keep thinking about eyesight in general, I just keep overthinking all of these things and it's ruining my life and giving me a lot of anxiety. I think I also might have OCD. I sometimes get these weird compulsions like touching something a certain amount of times or petting my dog a certain amount of times. What am I supposed to do? It's all I can think of almost 24/7. This is driving me insane.

Hello,
Sit your parents down and explain to them what you are experiencing. You have many resources out there that can inform you better of this condition. Here's one that can help for a start.

Tell us a bit more about yourself.
What happened in November?
Did you meet any new people?

I am not a professional but this certainly sounds like OCD to me. Usually the reason we obsess on things like you have is to avoid thinking of something else. It’s a defense mechanism that the brain has – if there is something that is too painful for you to think about then your brain just keeps itself occupied with something else. In your case blinking.

As a previous person asked you, what was going on in your life last November when this all started? That might give you clue to what is causing this.

But this is a puzzle that is not always as easy to figure out as it sounds. At least not on your own. There are professionals who specialize in this and you need to get their help. The first thing you need to do is to sit your parents down, explain this to them in detail, and ask them to get you help. And if you do not have the type of relationship with your parents where you feel you can have this conversation, or if they are not as responsive to this as you want them to be, then talk to your school counselor or some other adult that you trust. I know that is a tough thing to do, but one way or another you need to get professional guidance for this.

I say this as someone who had very similar experiences with OCD when I was 14. I know what this is like. So please believe me, talk to an adult that you trust about this and ask them to get you help.

I wish you luck. And I commend you for your bravery in sharing this with other people here. This can go away (it did for me) but it is best to address it sooner than later. You know better than anyone how crazy making it is to go through this.

Thanks to everyone who's replied.

Recently, this problem went away, but it came back. It seems to come back either at random or if there's something I've been looking forward to for a while and I get to do it. I've talked to my mom about it and she said we could try to get me help, but it went away so nothing came of it. But considering it's back, I guess I should get that help. But what I wanna know is can I even get that help? Is there some sort of medication or what?

I don't know, I thought I was do with this and it's back. It makes me miserable.

Have you found a solution? I seem to be experiencing the same thing.
I know it's been over a year so I hope things have been looking up for you.

Sorry I know this is an old post, but I'm hoping it can help someone in need.

If you’re having a lot of anxiety and can’t stop thinking about a bodily sensation like blinking, breathing or swallowing, then you probably have what’s called sensorimotor OCD.

I’m fortunate to be someone who successfully recovered from sensorimotor OCD. As theres still a lack of information on how to treat it as well as a lack of access to a suitable therapist for many, I've written a brief guide on overcoming sensorimotor OCD at https://sensorimotorocd. net/. It's based primarily on CBT and ERP. I hope it is useful to people who are struggling with this, though of course does not replace a qualified therapist who can address the issue.
