locking threads - WTF

Postby speakerfritz » Sun Jul 08, 2012 5:00 am

Why are we locking threads. Apparently...we have posers who want to impersonate folks with high emotional intelligence and really do not want to allow this forum to be a a tool for collaborative exchanges. so I guess it's time to bump it up and move into a higher place in the strata. your loss....certainly not mine. moving on.

Threads are automatically locked if no one has posted on them for a while. Very occasionally they are locked by admin because they contain something objectionable. Are you talking about any particular thread/s?

Is it ok to open a new thread using a cut-n-paste from a closed thread? I found some threads that are interesting but I cant chime in or ask because they are closed :(

DustDevil, the best way to talk about something on a closed thread is by including a link to that thread, so that people can go back to it and read it (if relevant) before picking up on your point.

So what? Are we running out of space or something? If no one replies, the thread dies a natural death. There is NO need to lock this thread at all. I want to discuss it and others might want to too.
People need to get out of this obscene habit of locking threads because THEY dont want to discuss something.

That isn't what happens. A thread automatically gets locked when no one has replied to it for a couple of months. If you have something to say about it you can start a new thread with the same title, part 2.

If the OP on any thread has long gone, there's really no point replying to his or her question.
