Hyper Sensitive Persons

Postby CandyApples » Tue Mar 03, 2020 5:23 am

I tried to copy and paste from a few places but the forum wouldnt let me it said it was spammy. For those who are interested, a good place to start is hsperson.com

Im curious if people will find these folks just awful, or if they could step inside the shoes of someone who is this way and then explain how that might affect their views on the world. For me--the constant noise alone...eeek.

Much like a austic person may be more sensitive to itchy clothing, is that person wrong for being picky on the type of material they wear because a apart of their brain finds the feel, overwhelming?

I think more education on HSP and more awareness would be a huge help. Feel free to take the self test, you never know that the results are.

CandyApples,

I'm not sure what message you received, but normally anything over three links is rejected.

As for HSP and education, I think some awareness is great. But again, what is your expectation, that the world changes for the HSP's? Or is it the role of HSP's to adjust to the actual world?

I'm not sure in other countries, but in the USA there is the concept of ADA and "reasonable accommodations". There is education and recognition that some people have special needs.

In my opinion, the autistic person can avoid the material. That doesn't infringe on the reasonable freedoms of every other person. If an HSP needs special accommodations, I'm all for it as long as it follows the same logic. If noise is a problem, the HSP can get noise canceling headphones rather than everyone else stop making noise that for the majority is not an issue.

I guess in the end it comes down to the "reasonableness" the HSP expects from the world.

I think first would be just simple awareness of it. I didnt even know it existed until a year ago. I'm not too sure on the accommodations going forward, but I agree having noise cancellation headphones for example, would work but not sure how that would play out in the work world in some jobs. I think I wanted to share the link because it really hit home to me that all those things I felt....had a name....and a reason behind it. So that was actually a relief. Second...the world most certainly is not going to bend or change much for it...but it would be nice for some understanding to were, personal example...I can not stand the loud zip or rumble of "crotch rockets" or loud revving motorcycles. I think they are cool but the noise immediately sends me into a flight or fight response, fighting being the option, like adrenalin and extreme annoyance. So the 5 druggy people down the road who literally, up and down up and down for hours and hours, really...physically make me crazy at that moment. (exaggerated word but its how it feels). Your average work place has lights that hurt your eyes, and the average boss wants to you mulitask with tons of chit chat and things going on around you, it feels chaotic to ppl with HSP but that feeling is mistaken for the employee being dumb at their job where that isnt whats going on at all. What I have done is positioned myself with employment to where that is no longer a issue, but I just want others to be aware, and know there are options. And to educate people who may love loud noise, crowds, excessive stimuli that it is a huge overload for other people. Just simple awareness. Im not sure if you see those factors in my response, but I hope it might shed some light of maybe why things feel so suffocating at times.

I try and others have tried to guide me into adjusting into a world that is very anti-hsp in its actions, to adjust, but very much like Candid said, you cant control people. I do not have the option to live on top of a mountain per say at the moment but this city life stuff and walls of technology and fast pace is like a very heavy blanket it feels at times. Not sure where to go with it honestly.

On a side note, science has proven noise pollution is real, and its like little invisible beams all over the place piercing into your body and brain, it does cause change or reactions. It can be harmful. Also an interesting fact I read, it was something like there is not one place in the world that is 100% noise free. The article said even in the middle of (it named a nature preserve) where the human ear cant hear noise, this machine was able to pick up on it and it said some animals hear like that. Thats--amazing to me, not one place in the entire world .

HSPs are very self-aware people, no?

I do not follow the logic.

If a person is hyper sensitive to perfume, that doesn’t necessarily translate to being self-aware in general. In fact, I might argue the opposite occurs. If a person is always hyper focused on smells, that might diminish self-awareness in other areas.

Sorry, I think I might've meant emotional hyper sensitivity in particular.

The first question, how many emotional HSPs are not self aware that they are emotionally hyper sensitive? They cry for little if any reason, but are not aware that it is not normal.

It may take others to tell them that getting angry over X or crying over Y is not the reaction of the average person.

Maybe in time a hyper emotional person becomes self aware as they encounter problems relating to less emotionally sensitive others.

And again, if they become hyper focused on their emotions, they become self aware of their emotional states. But, in doing so they might lose self awareness in other areas, eg they are not self aware of their performance. They only are focused on how their performance makes them feel, not on whether the performance is actually functional.
