I think I had my first panic attack but not sure.

Ive had social anxiety disorder all my life so anxiety is nothing new. Last night I was over at a friends house smoking a little weed which is also nothing new. After we got done smoking we were sitting outside in front of his house smoking a cigeratte. Which I only do when I smoke weed to increase the high. After I got done with the cigeratte I started to get noticebly hot. And I kept getting hotter and hotter till I was pouring sweat. I was sitting down on a bench trembling badly and really starting to get scared. Then I started to see white spots everywhere untill I couldnt make out my friend 2 feet in front of me. Then my hearing started to go. The world sounded muffled like someone placed thier hands over my ears. I turned white as a ghost, I couldnt breathe and I remember thinking I was going to die. After about 10 minutes of that though it gradually went away as it had came.

My first thoughts were that the weed was laced with something. But I smoked with 2 other people and they were completely fine. I thought about a presentation I had given recently on panic disorder and these symptoms sound very similar. I never would have thought it was this dramatic though. Aslo I wasnt that anxious the time of the attack. One of the people we were smoking with I didnt know so I was a little apprehensive about that. But Ive been much worse and didnt have one of these.

I also just started paxil and tomoxal in the past weeks. I smoked the day before and had no problem so I dont think it was the drugs reacting bad with the weed.

This was such a bad experience that it completely turned me off of weed. Which was one of my favorite if not favorite things to do.

Wow! After reading through some post this seems to be quite common here. That is panic attacks induced by smoking marijuana. Fortuneately mine only lasted for 10 minutes. Some stories I read were truley terrifying with symptoms lasting for months at a time.

Hi Chris975

Welcome to the forum! A panic attack is just the body's alarm system going off inappropriately. This can happen when you are stoned just as when you are straight, but as you have less control when stoned and have altered your body's functioning with drugs, is perhaps more likely. I would recommend staying off the weed until you are sure you have the anxiety sorted.

One thing Im not sure of about panic attacks though. Can a panic attack be a physical disabling event like I described? Or is it more like if you were to encounter a bear in the woods. Seeing a bear in the woods would send your body into full state of awareness and I think your reflexes would be as quick and sharp as possible. What I experienced was a disabling(though that could of been from the marijuana to) episode where I could barely walk and was unable to find my mouth to drink a glass of water. If I were in this condition face to face with a bear I would surely have no chance of fleeing or fighting.

This is really part of the problem Chris, as you say the marijuana muddies the water somewhat, although some people do experience 'freezing' during a panic attack.

I think the same thing that happenend to chris happened to me. i had smoked about an hour and a half before, i remember thinking that i was going to pass out thought that i had shaken it. i was standing talking to my girlfriend and started feeling it again so i sat down and it kept coming i knew i was going out and i told them i was going to pass out. first my vision started fading and when it went totally black i couldnt hear. they said i was out for about 2 mins. I thought that i was going to die. then i came back to conciousness and was very dissorinted and could not shake the feeling that i was going to pass out again about half hour later it broke and i went into a cold sweat and my body temp was 96 degrees i still felt like it was going to happen again until i went to sleep. ihave passed out before and knew it was happening but it never lasted this long. Could it be that i was thinking about it kept the feeling with me? ZANE
