Maybe that's why you chose to marry someone who would keep you in your discomfort zone. Familiarity is what we cling to, even when we know it's making us miserable.

As a Complex-PTSD sufferer and sometime counsellor I understand perfectly, including the resistance to acknowledging where it all began. https://outofthefog.website/cptsd

Sometimes I celebrate Easter. Here in China that isn't a thing, so this year I'm not doing anything to observe the holiday. Enjoy your Easter weekend.

I'm not sure that there is a need for you or anyone to prove or disprove my observation. It is simply a potential explanation for you to consider. It is not uncommon for people to self-sabotage. And it actually isn't that hard to prove. There is plenty of research on the subject under concepts like self-efficacy, self-regulation and goal theory.

And when I say it is not uncommon, I mean that all of us self-sabotage to some degree. It isn't a matter of if, but rather a matter of how often or when and the degree to which this negatively impacts our lives.

Your goal is to find a solution to insomnia which you say you have had since childhood. What has kept you from achieving your goal? Given the length of time you have had this issue, it is highly unlikely that you have never gotten in the way of your own progress.

Anyway, I'm off to deal with my own self-sabotage/self-regulation issues. I have a deadline to meet and playing on UCF is just a fun distraction. Happy Easter.

questioneverything, may I question you?

How many ways can you think of in which — personality wise, and particularly in her treatment of you — your wife resembles your mother?

Really, Candid? Freud, now?

But to answer your question, she doesn't.

Note to Candid and Richard: This has all been very interesting, but we are quite honestly at an impasse. Reply to this if you wish, but I am of the thought that my answers, if there are any to be had, lie elsewhere.

Peace to you both.

Quite honestly, you are at an impasse.

It is quite the intractable issue as apparently any answers, if there are any to be had, have eluded you since childhood. Here it is decades later and you are still at an impasse, reaching yet another dead end. The answer is not available in CBT, in hypnosis or in this forum.

No one else is at an impasse. The therapist, your wife, the forum members. It is only you. Have you ever wondered why that might be? It’s a rhetorical question.

More recent as well as.

Doesn't resemble your mother in any way at all?

Okay. :deepbreath:

1) Is/was your mother female?
