Re: cant move on until something is done

Hmmm . . . here's my best guess of where it comes from and how it might fit into your strategy for dealing with it. Your autonomic nervous system has the job of controlling how revved up your nervous system is in any given situation. To get a good night's sleep, things need to be running pretty slow...

Re: cant move on until something is done

What you describe sounds a lot like the discomfort that occurs in most people when an expected series of events is not completed. A simple example of the "expected-series-not-completed" scenario, would be sitting at an intersection and having the traffic light go from green to yellow and t...

Re: feeling empty

Feeling empty inside as you describe is most often associated with thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are very challenging to live with and to work your way through. It is important that you take this seriously. One approach that you might want to check out Dialectical Behavior Therapy . While i...

Re: self hypnosis

A simple self-hypnosis you might start with is a 4-3-2-1 which goes as follows: focus your eyes on a point directly in front of you notice four physical sensations one at a time, for example. “I am aware of my feet on the floor” ( slow breath in and out ) “I am aware of the chair supporting my thigh...

Re: My behavior regarding sex confuses me.

What a dilemma, when something that has the potential to feel so good feels terrible it can get to be a lose-lose! Concluding that your self is basically bad is a double whammy. It is an awful place to be AND it is easily taken as "proof" that you can't dig out of the hole you are in. If y...

Re: can i train myself for better stress responce?

I’m that case it is often helpful to focus on coming back to the practice when you slip and telling yourself that every time you come back, your self-discipline gets stronger.

It’s like training a puppy. You keep bringing your focus back, kindly, lovingly.

Baby steps. Over and over.

Re: can i train myself for better stress responce?

You might find some useful things in one of the old, classic approaches to stress by people such as Herbert Benson or Jon Kabat-Zinn.

The goal is to find something simple that you can and will do. Usually that means that it makes sense to you and feels good when you do it..

Re: Sound Systems

It has been my experience that the best interventions are built more around using what the client brings to the process and less around what I may have decided I am going to do beforehand. However, when a therapist is skilled and experienced enough to make good decisions as to what, when, and how to...

Re: Useless existing, problems with parents

Hi Ivan, Wow! There are .so many parts to your situation that it must be hard to know where to start. Sometimes just doing something can have a positive effect, even if what you try doesn't "work", as the inertia gets altered. Even a very small thing can alter the balance enough for you to...
