I use a lightbox for a couple of hours every morning, it's on on my desk as I type, and my sleep paterns are as regular as they are in the summer. I'm on 40mg of Citalopram a day but sleep well, maybe the lightbox is a placebo, maybe it really does work, I'm arguing neither way, I'm one of the lucky...

Nat', I can see your logic 10mg in the morning, 10mg at night but before you experiment, discuss it with your GP. These meds are like radioactive isotopes in as much as they have a 'half-life' i.e. the time it takes for their effectiveness to dissipate to a level with no effect, so, if you 'top-up' ...

Nat', It must be difficult coping with your own problems and the little one but I'd suggest you accept your GP's advice/instruction regarding an increase in your dosage, it'll maybe take a couple of weeks for the increase to have an effect but, certainly in my experience, it'll be worth it in the en...

Mornin' Shar, Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings ....... the sweats are a common side effect and a regular one at that. I've been on Citalopram for well over a year now and once they 'kicked-in' after about a month the sweats did too! Even sitting still they can come up on you unexpectedly, hot o...

Dave, I started on 20mg, then 30mg, then 30mg/40mg on alternate days and finally (hopefully) 40mg a day. The initial 20mg took, I reckon, about 4 weeks to get into my system so the gradual increase thereafter wasn't really noticeable as far as the side effects were concerned. Perhaps the most common...

Ellen, The side effects CAN be horrible, and long lasting, but the Citalopram does work, given a chance. They can take between 4-6 weeks to really 'kick-in' and even longer to have a noticeable effect but in the long run they're worth it. I've been on dosages up to 40mg a day for well over a year an...

Helen, You've done well in the short time you've been on Citalopram, others find it impossible to sleep ....... permanently! Others find the med's 'kick-in' after between 4-6 weeks and, if they're lucky, the sleep patters return to normal. Persevere m'dear, persevere! Happiness and light to all, 'Ch...

IS A LIGHTBOX AN 'ANTIDOTE' FOR WINTER INSOMNIA ..... I DON'

I don't want to sound as if I'm plugging them but I use my lightbox from, 0h, 07:45 until around mid-day and although I'm on 40mg a day of Citalopram for anxiety/PA/depression, I sleep well at nights, 22:00 'till 06:00. I will admit, I sleep in the car on the way to work, in the car on the way home,...

Annette et al, Take the tablets! The side-effects can be sh** but they're worth putting up with, but you've got to persevere. Some people feel lousy for the first 6-8 weeks until the med's 'kick-in' but some of us have numerous side-effects constantly (I''ve been on 40mg of Citalopram for about 18 m...

Oldskool, I've found the lightbox to be useful, placebo or not, and intend to keep using it until the spring. It may be the Citalopram, it may be the lightbox, it may be both but if I can make it to Spring without a prolonged bout of 'duvet time' I don't care what it takes. Happiness and light to al...

I've had 'bad days' during the Autumn/Winter, every year since 2001, and this year have been using a Lightbox to simulate natural light - I've got it on now in front of my screen - and even if it is a placebo I've found that unlike a lot of people on Citalopram (I'm on 40mg a day) I'm sleeping well ...

I take my 40mg of Citalopram upon waking and apart from feeling drowsy for an hour or so (probably just me taking a while to 'come round'!) I don't find the time I take them to make any real difference.

Happiness and light to all,

Morning! I'm on 40mg of Citalopram a day and enjoy a couple of glasses of white wine every lunchtime and maybe another couple in the evening. I never have a hangover and sleep well (I reckon I'm one of the lucky ones on Citalopram who do). An added benefit I've found is that going to the pub at lunc...
