Colleague self harming tendencies and suicidal thoughts

Hi everyone, it’s many years since I posted here last and this time I’d appreciate some guidance regarding another work colleague. Whilst trying to understand some performance issues which in fairness are out of character for this lad, he eventually confided that he’d occasionally self harmed and ha...

Friend with alcohol dependency

Hi, I'm looking for advice to help a friend (honestly, it is a friend, not me!). He's been depressed for years (I began posting on this forum about him several years ago) but he seemed to get his life under control until recently and he's suffering from depression again, but more worryingly is heavi...

To be honest, I don't feel obligated personally....my boss thinks one of us should go to represent the company (and he's away on business that day!). I certainly aren't close to the guy concerned, we have a chat occasionally and exchange the normal daily pleasantries. I've asked his manager to ask h...

Management - Dealing with a bereavement

Bit of a difficult one this. I am a senior manager in a company where one of our employees has just lost a young child after a long illness. As a company we're 'happy' to have supported him through her illness. Now to the funeral. My manager has suggested that we perhaps have a duty to attend to sho...

It turns out that he only took the extra 10mg in the afternoon to deal with his anxiety at having to go to bed and suffer endless insomnia. ...

Sorry to be abrupt but the arguments about whose theories are sound and whose are misinterpreted are interesting but unfortunately they add little to the post. Advice about practical ways in which we can help our friend is more useful.

The suggested change of medication sounds like it may be a good start, my brother in law (who is a psychiatric healthcare professional) said the same thing. Would a GP allow me to speak on my friends behalf, would he take a laymans suggestion to consider alternative medication seriously. I don't min...

Helping a friend

Hi all, new to your excellent forum and wonder if you can help. A friend of ours has been diagnosed with depression (4 months ago) and has been on 30mg Citalopram daily. Apart from a few days at the beginning of his treatment when he felt 'better', he feels he is at best as bad as he was, or has got...
