Re: Job interview shame

I feel like I can't talk with anyone in my life about it because I don't want people to see how weak I am. We need to begin talking about anxiety in a healthy way before we can manage it. I know, we all want to manage our issues on our own without letting anybody else know about it but this simply ...

Re: Job interview shame

It sounds like classic anxiety but in thread title you say you feel shame. Why is this?

Is the shame only because of your anxiety? Or perhaps there's another reason for the shame that you feel during the interview, which makes you nervous...

Re: Please someone help me.

If, physically, you're healthy, then yes, the problem is anxiety. Take time to consider any significant changes or problems you need to be managing more than you are. Perhaps it's not one big change or problem, but an accumulation of small ones. For instance, maybe you've been taking on more and mor...

PSA: Get to a Meeting

To everyone in this section of the forum struggling with addiction: get to a 12-step meeting. I am not a representative of the program, I'm not a religious fanatic trying to convert you, I'm not an addict in recovery preaching what worked for me and assuming it will work for you. I am a psychologist...

Re: Is this depression / what should I do?

Nowadays I feel very emotionally distant from everything and I'm not sure if it's getting better on its own. It won't. It's vital for our mental health to reach out and make connections. Whatever your interests are, share them with others to start. Mental health simply doesn't happen without connec...

Re: Feel like I'm losing control of my life

About 40 percent of the stories in the Western canon are redemption stories. Rocky III is my favorite. It's because that's what we humans do; we mess things up and get back on track through resonating with similar situations.. The idea is we delve into why we messed up, fix that underlying cause, th...

Re: How to deal with depression

Depression is stored-up anger.

It means there have been needs in your life that have gone unmet---they go unmet for long enough and your body begins to shut down.

Figure out your needs through reaching out, self-reflection, and therapy.

Re: Had hysterectomy and now depression

Go to the doctor and tell him what's wrong.

I think what you're going through is common and hormone replacement therapy can help.

Re: Feeling guilty for being depressed: endless cycle

My parents know something's wrong but how can I ever tell them how I feel? This is the problem, plain and simple. You're disconnected. This is where the majority of us find meaning---in honest, secure attachments with others. If you don't have that, the success doesn't matter that much and will in ...

Re: Please Help

Start going to AA and Al-Anon. AA for you and Al-Anon for your sister (but ultimately for you).

These are groups that will understand what you're going through, you can listen and relate, and this is great start.

Re: no self control why do i do things i know i shouldnt?

What you're experiencing is a compulsive behavior. The cause is latent anxiety, which is painful, so you come up with ways to distract yourself from the pain, hence the compulsive behavior. Usually, in modern society, the anxiety is caused by loneliness, lack of secure attachments. On another level,...

Re: boyfriend problem. very long story

When there are discordant attitudes about drug use between two people in a relationship, it's probably not going to last. I see this all the time. We wouldn't think it'd be a big deal if one person smokes pot and the other doesn't, but it does. People break up over this all the time. It's not the dr...

Re: What kind of ADHD is this?

Sounds like symptoms of an anxiety disorder rather than ADHD. Overwhelmed, no structure, burdened by past, avoidance behaviors.

Anxiety often looks like ADHD, which is why it's misdiagnosed.

Re: Friend with escalating attention seeking behaviors

You say it yourself: she tries to get a rise out of you. That's her drug and you give it to her.

Tell her you don't accept that behavior and then ignore her when she tries to seek attention.
