Verbal tics: help?

A friend of mine is having some serious tic issues. I was wondering if there's any form of therapy to deal with such things [including but not limited to HRT, which I don't know much about ^^;]? Here's a brief summary of what's going on. My friend was prescribed Risperdal (spelling?) since the age o...

Hi, Sarah. I've had my trouble with depressions, mood swings and (in the last two years) panic attacks also. I was prescribed some meds at some point, but I gave up after two days [largely because they made me feel like I was dead inside]. In winter last year I had a fit of depression that left me a...

Hello Nick, Wow... you've sure been through a lot. I really admire you for not breaking down completely. You say that, if anything should happen to your girlfriend, it would be your fault. That's not true. In the end, everyone has to be responsible for themselves to some degree and aware on how to a...

The only context when I tried self-affirmations was when I got fed up with having panick attacks and taking meds that didn't work. When I sensed that a panic attack was iminent, I closed my eyes, breathed deep and kept telling myself that it's nothing, it's going away and I'm perfectly all right. I ...

You definitely shouldn't just grit your teeth and "go with it". I find it admirable that you decided to do something in the end -- just an extra suggestion, do NOT, by any means, feel ashamed or intimidated, because you're doing the right thing and your neighbors are in the wrong. A few ye...

Well, the first thing to keep in mind is that your pills won't solve your problems for you. Medicine can get rid of physical symptoms, yes -- but as long as you don't address the problems that triggered the depression, you haven't really achieved everything. What makes you feel depressed? Maybe, if ...

Well... I don't really understand what's the situation here. Do you live in Birmingham and your friends told you to leave the town because you're an attention seeker? And... do you take drugs? If so, I think it would be best to quit [no matter how hard it gets, it's better than dying of an overdose]...

@madhatter: Like I said before, she doesn't act like her personality would be split in two when she's around other people... [I'm lucky to know her though, she's great -- even though she's got this weird... thing going on.] @PsyChris: I wiki'd "dissociative identity disorder", but she does...

I see. So in the end, every action, good or bad, has its origins in the supervisor program -- which stores either the original or a copy of every single bit of information the brain collects and retains. I think I see it now :)

Looking forward to chapter IV!

Well, I don't really know if she's hearing voices, but since she was talking out loud and playing the part of one person at a time, this looks more like the multiple personalities thing... although she doesn't act strange and doesn't have any quick mood swings when she's around other people. I think...

Yep... ignoring works pretty fine for me. Let's look at it this way: if you stop and think for hours about the bad words one person said to you, then you are going to end up feeling sad and frustrated, right? And if that person intended to hurt you, you're giving them the satisfaction of knowing the...

Hello, What do you mean by being "sexually abused to an extent"? Could you be a little more specific about what happened back then? As I see it, there is no need for *you* to run away from your brother, since it is him that has done something wrong. You don't need to feel guilty about anyt...

Talking to yourself = crazy?

Here's something that's been bothering me... A few days ago, I found one of my friends on the roof of our dorm, apparently talking to a person named "Bella". She'd take turns in speaking in her own voice and in a deeper voice with a bit of an accent, which I assumed it was the voice of tha...
