Perhaps You May wrote:When I say to someone "do i have permission to do hypnosis with you?" it's actually a compliance test and being polite, it's not something the conscious can evaluate in any useful way.

Well said.

1. PT is not the same as 'don't lie to the client and don't give them false reassurance'. I find it incredibly difficult to falsely reassure as it feels incredibly anti therapeutic to me. I'm either brutally honest, neutral, acknowledging the client in their pov without endorsing it (they might rea...

lol.. that would be a non-verbal lack of consent. They basically said "fu, what are you doing?"

Depends on how mischievous I'm feeling ;) Remind me never to get drunk with you. Yes, our thoughts do leak out into the real world, which complicates things. There is absolutely more going on, and I don't want to downplay that. It's just that you can get a lot of mileage out of this simple lo...

Okay, that clears things up. Yes, we do have some ways of telling real from imaginary, and as hypnotists, we know they're pretty shaky ;) You mean de-hypnotists, lol. I'm talking about a 'lower level' than that. I'm talking about the hardware level implementation that makes it difficult. The genera...

I think I'm going agree with Kev's post. This area of study is a difficult one, as most people wouldn't attempt this, and if someone did, they wouldn't be likely to share it. The biggest "test" was done by Derren Brown, which doesn't make it much clearer at ALL. Duh. That was my point. :l...

What, resting my hand on a hot stove, or walking into traffic? Or do you mean trying to get someone else to do one of those things?

Making someone unaware that they are in danger. Perhaps "you are walking along this road of your mind, but any cars travelling along the road transform themselves into clouds, and jumping into these clouds causes you to experience a feeling of amazing euphoria" That's no different than te...

I don't see how that relates. That isn't what I was talking about at all. I've been rethinking this, and it's a complicated issue. On the one hand, thinking about it, it's actually possible to be frightened or depressed literally to death. That's definitely not a useful response in any context, so ...

I don't see how that relates. That isn't what I was talking about at all. Can you please rephrase my point to verify that I've been understood? You said basically that map/territory errors suck, and that since our brain doesn't have built-in error-correction code to separate memories from fantasies...

A person knowingly going into trance with informed consent may know, but... They know it because they experience it, not because they're told. I'm also not talking about overriding self preservation instincts, I'm talking about avoiding them. Perhaps, but I don't see how you could go about that.

This is a good example. (By the way, he misses the boat which passed at 0:30. She says that she didn't even think she had a problem till someone pointed it out. This is the big fat loose end which you have to follow, if the reason for being in the session isn't solid then the whole session will be ...

No, I'm pretty sure its shitty architecture. It's not just a trade off between thinking and acting, which would be understandable. It's that people don't function well when fear gets too strong - even for things roughly equivalent to running from tigers . An x86 processor can also execute instructi...

Okay, time for a real reply. First off, you seem to be describing a desirable end state that I seem to agree with (though don't follow 100%). Any thoughts on how to get there other than hypnotically describing mindfulness? That's been an ongoing debate and something I've been trying to attack from ...
