Stephen, I think you're absolutely right about the more confident people being easier to approach. I talk to a lot of strangers in various places and some respond and some just stare at me. I don't do it with any agenda - I just like chatting to people. Just so long as you're aware you'll never get ...

Oh dear Nico17, everyone seems to think you're just having them on. But I believe I understand how you feel because I feel pretty much the same. Also excelled at school and college (and coincidentally majored in psy), am well thought of at work etc etc. However I've always sort of felt on the outsid...

Oh yes I well remember that inability to take a full breath. It used happen to me regularly every year when the course work for UNISA arrived. (UNISA is a distance university). For a couple of years I didn't associate the problem with that and thought it was some kind of pollen in the air at that ti...

Margi, I'd reckon the best thing to do isto find out more about the company you work for. Be inquisitive. Ask questions. The documents you work with - why not google some of the terms so you understand them? Heck google the whole field and engage with the subject. If your directors don't want to tak...

Oh dear, oh dear - on Wednesday I had a fall on way to the bus and sprained my ankle and messed up my arm and knee. Doc has put me off work for a while. Very difficult to climb on bus with crutches. But I'm sure they'll manage just fine without me. There is after all, one person left standing.... 8)

Thanks, Lonely Poet. Yes, I am very angry, but too close to retirement in a country with huge unemployment problems to be able to walk out. I even offered to take redundancy and they advised me it wasn't being offered to me. I have, however, managed to get the clerk I am losing transferred to anothe...

If it only happens just as you wake up, I'd say it's a fairly common thing. I know that when I'm about to go to sleep and I close my eyes, I feel I can "see" the darkened room and the shapes of the furniture through my closed eyelids. And when I've had nightmares and decide to go to sleep ...

Not so much talent, as ideas. And in all felds. So you might get totally independent scientists for example coming up with theories that look very similar. I forget where I read the article (or book) on it now. The problem in the present day is that there is so much information bombarding us via TV ...

Are you musical? I mean could you write down these songs and the music you hear? Maybe that's how the great composers did it? Their ideas came from somewhere and there is a theory that all these things are there and you just have to tune into them and write them down.

Go shopping :D I'm not being facetious - you want a new point of view, try exploring those of other people through reading, joining groups, meeting people. Try different points of view or ways of life on for size and keep the bits that you feel happy in and discard the rest. Eventually you'll distil...

Krakatoa, I like the way you think. This ties in seamlessly with what you said about belief. In fact I guess it boils down to the same thing. I'd say motivation comes from inspiration: an insight into truly convincing reasons for the action. And if you don't really believe those reasons, you're not ...

I certainly don't think sitting back waiting for things and beliefs to change is the way to go. I don't think beliefs would change much in the face of such apathy. One explores, tests, pokes and prods at different options and ideas and as you say, real, at any moment something jells and there's your...

The trouble is that the last time I tried to cut out caffeine, I had a continuous headache that nothing would shift. Eventually I gave in and half a cup of coffee later the headache vanished. That experience has made me afraid to attempt it again.

Oh heck, I like to switch. Right brain when pouring out the creative bits, left brain when editing and organising. I go to rock concerts and symphony concerts. I like to write fiction and follow Eastern thought but I also like to be organized and I'm logical. I think equally well lying down, sitting...

So Krakatoa, what you are saying is a genuine change of belief requires a paradigm shift. An enlightenment. An AHA moment?
I feel like going back to read some philosophy again. I'd forgotten how good it is to exercise one's brain.
