It has taken me many weeks to feel that the withdrawal symptoms of Lyrica have -perhaps - finally gone. Most people seem okay with this drug, but for some that can't be the case. I suffered increased anxiety and depression within a week of coming off it. I was taking 600mg / day for almost a year an...

Zopiclone makes my mouth taste foul the next day - Zolpidem is much kinder and I think has fewer side effect. Apparently the NASA astronauts use it (-; He really shouldn't be taking sleeping tablets like that though - and he surely knows that. In excess, zopiclone might even cause him to feel quite ...

Hi - I had that and much worse but to be fair, many people find the side effects diminish after a few weeks and then they do feel better on this drug. About 40% of people seem to gain worthwhile relief from the studies I've seen (placebo produces about 30%!). But not for me sadly - the side effects ...

Bad luck for you to be in this situation. My son had a possibly manic episode, out of the blue, in January at the end of a period of intense personal stress (fifth year medical exams / 24-7 emergency room stint / friendship + long term girl friend issues...). Anyway as a medic he got the best we hav...

I think we agree essentially, then. Severe depression is difficult to "label", really - except it's clear that it rarely leads to mania and psychosis, surely? I have little faith in talking therapies myself but still seem them as a better first attempt.

Do you think that physicians everywhere follow that model and line of thought? Not in the Europe, I think. Very, very few people here suffer from a disorder that will develop into mania or a psychosis;and yet most people here would be a candidate for an SSRI if they so chose. I haven't seen the evid...

Of course a drug can enhance mood - but always at a cost to other mental processes; and sometimes an intolerable and dangerous cost - which can be unknown and long term, maybe permanent. Also the changes made to the brain chemistry affect different people in different ways so there is no consistency...

Hi Steve, may I ask what did you take and for how long? As to scientific evidence - leading clinicians and researchers such as Dr Dianne Lefevre at the Mental Health Unit, Basildon Hospital and Professor Basant K. Puri, Head of the Lipid Neuroscience Department at Imperial College, London, use cert...

"you'll be amazed with the results." I wasn't; and I haven't found any reputable scientific study to support your claim, sadly. If only this were the case in general. For some, I guess, maybe a few maybe more, you could be right. My mother persevered with this treatment too with great hope...

I think the stats show only about 40% of patients feel significantly better on SSRIs like citalopram. For about 30%, the side effects are not tolerable. After three months I was still having disabling and frequent panicky feelings, agitation, a severely critical attitude, severe sleep problems, seve...

Point taken, but she's absolutely right in that not sleeping well will make anxiety ten times worse, as I'm sure you know. Perhaps it doesn't help you, but there are some people who might never have made the connection. I always recommend long walks during the day as the best way to get a good nigh...

"Getting your nutritional balance right will prevent panic attacks, but not the fight or flight response to a fearful event."

So very obvious isn't it? Ah well!

I loved the bit about sleep. Get plenty of sleep she says. Yes indeed. It's clear this person has never suffered with insomnia. See your doctor she says. Ah yes - of course they have the magic wand to cure insomnia. Indeed. Lots of good advice there for sure and it might help a few.

The half life is long so when it is taken cannot really affect blood levels. I detest the stuff but guess it works for some people.

Good points. I suspect thought that there is more. When I had a colonoscopy, the doctor said he could tell that I had IBS because the action of pumping air into the bowel (to expand the bowel so the scope can view it) caused a great deal of colicky pain through contractions of the bowel wall. This, ...
